Pandemic relief coordinators reemphasize the importance of vaccination
Though slowed significantly by vaccination, COVID-19 cases have been rising in the United States, reportedly in areas with low vaccination rates. White House Corona Virus Response Team coordinator Jeff Zients stated the positivity rate is currently around 10 percent, with a weekly average of 5,600 new cases a day. He said that Florida is spiking with a new infection rate greater than the national average.
“Just four states accounted for more than 40 percent of all cases in the past week, with 1 in 5 of all cases occurring in Florida alone,” Coordinator Zients stated during a briefing Friday. “We will likely… continue to experience an increase in COVID cases in the weeks ahead, with these cases concentrated in communities with lower vaccination rates.”
